Fasten Your Helmet, Protect Your Life

Helmet safety awareness

For every motorcycle rider, a quality helmet is more than just a safety accessory - it is a life protector. Wearing a helmet every time you ride can greatly reduce the risk of serious injury and save lives. Protect yourself and your loved ones by making helmet use a habit. If possible, encourage safety further by helping someone in need with a proper helmet.

A Matter of Serious Concern

According to the Government of India's report, Road Accidents in India 2023, failure to wear helmets resulted in the deaths of more than 54,500 people in a single year, while close to 1 lakh individuals suffered injuries. Many of these victims were left with lifelong disabilities.

Key Facts & Road Safety Trends

  • India recorded nearly 4.8 lakh road accidents and over 1.72 lakh fatalities in 2023. This means around 470 people lost their lives every day - almost 20 deaths every hour.
  • Overspeeding remains one of the biggest causes of fatal accidents, contributing to more than 70% of road deaths. People between 18 and 45 years of age continue to form the largest share of accident victims, accounting for nearly 68% of the total.

Seat Belts Save Lives

Seat belt safety awareness

For car drivers and passengers, a seat belt is the simplest yet most effective safety measure. Whether you are travelling a short distance or going on a long journey, fastening your seat belt can protect you from severe injuries and even death during an accident. Make it a habit for yourself and ensure every passenger in the vehicle is safely buckled up before the journey begins.

A Serious Road Safety Concern

Road accidents continue to claim thousands of lives every year across India. A large number of fatalities in four-wheeler accidents occur due to non-use of seat belts, especially among front and rear seat passengers. Wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the impact of collisions and increases the chances of survival during crashes.

Important Findings & Road Safety Trends

  • India continues to witness a huge number of road accidents every year, leading to thousands of deaths and serious injuries. Many victims suffer permanent disabilities that affect their families and livelihoods forever.
  • Overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes on highways and city roads. Rash driving, distracted driving, and ignoring traffic rules further increase the risks for car occupants.
  • Young adults between 18 and 45 years continue to be the most affected age group in road accident fatalities, highlighting the urgent need for responsible driving habits.
  • A significant number of road accidents take place in rural areas, where emergency response and trauma care facilities are often limited compared to urban regions.
  • Despite improvements in road infrastructure and stricter traffic regulations, road accidents continue to rise across the country. Major metropolitan cities, including Delhi, remain highly vulnerable to increasing traffic-related incidents.

Drive Responsibly

Always wear your seat belt, maintain safe speed limits, avoid distractions while driving, and never drink and drive. Road safety begins with individual responsibility, and one small precaution can save multiple lives.
